The Liberal Dilemma; Google and Fake Tans - Episode 14
In this episode Beth and Elizabeth talk about some of the more nuanced fake news that liberals are likely to overlook. We talk memes that speak to our confirmation bias. Either we believe them, they make us laugh, we don't think they hurt anyone, or they are just too gross to research (we know, we can't un-see it either). Don't be fooled though - they are all fake. Let's take a look at the roundup. ![]()
Meme #1 - Donald Trump Doesn't Salute the Flag? We know... you want to believe this is true, because hey - DJT is DJT. But, there are so many true stories about his outrageous behavior - do we even need fake memes to be mad about?

Meme #2 - Lebron James Wore a Protest Shirt? This meme does say it all... except that it's fake. Which is hard to take, because King James is in the good fight... like the day he wore the "I Can't Breathe" shirt... which is where they got this image from. Celebrities have their likeness stolen all the time for fake quotes, shirts - etc. Just say no... to sharing fake memes.

#3 - Viral Facebook Post - Is Trump International Hotel Handing Out Anti-CNN Petitions? Holy peas and carrots! ARE THEY? THAT IS RIDICULOUS! I'M GOING DOWN THERE.... oh wait.

Meme #4 - We apologize for your burning eyes. Please do not wash them out with bleach. We can assure you from actual experience that bleach in your eyes is *technically* worse than this image.

We then talk about confirmation bias - and how it makes us forget to fact check things like the meme's above.
Sources used: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/contemporary-psychoanalysis-in-action/201612/fake-news-why-we-fall-it We also discuss the death of the "Fake News Kingpin" - a liberal named Paul Horner who thought that by creating fake news, he could show conservatives how "stupid" they are. Unfortunately, in his misguided attempt, he ultimately felt that he played a large part in DJT getting elected. Don't play with fake news folks, it will always burn you. Source: Paul Horner
We then review what's going on over at Google and discuss if they are trying to shut down legitimate liberal websites. Is this censorship or is it unintended causalities in the war against fake news?
