In this episode, Beth and Kelly discuss satire and whether it should be considered fake news. Surprise - it's not! However, you can't just call fake news satire and get away with it either. There's a fine, cringeworthy line you just cannot cross. Good satire can be anything from The Onion to The Daily Show - but bad satire abounds these days, so let's dive right in!
We love to laugh and poke fun of liars at We Can't Believe it's Not News, but we also love a good satirical piece. What's not satire are things like death, sexual assault, murder or body shaming. You can't write off racism as a joke either, as Florida (!) teacher Dayanna Volitich found out recently.
Beth's Jam of the Week, Fight for Your Right by Beastie Boys
Beth found out that this song was actually a parody - and when the Beastie Boys realized that the very people they were making fun of were using this song as their anthem, they stopped playing it live. The joke lives on though... who doesn't love this song?
