The Mueller Sex Scandal
It all started a few weeks before the election. A story started to be leaked to the press about Robert Mueller sexually assaulting a woman in the past. And then:
Except, (uh-oh) not even 10 minutes later an investigative journalist Scott Stedman responded to this tweet with a thread about how he had been contacted by a woman who claimed she had gotten a tip about a GOP operative offering money to women to say they had been assaulted by Mueller. The case quickly fell apart. The woman who contacted Stedman was dodgy and unreliable, the operative was too eager to discuss his financing of the women making the claims, and Wohl was found to behind the whole fake story, which he fed to conspiracy theorist Jack Burkman, who moonlights as a GOP lobbyist when he’s not protesting openly gay football players and peddling rumors about Seth Rich’s death.
Here's a quick run down of just some of Wohl's genius maneuvers:
• His email, jacob.wohl@nexmanagement.com, in the registry for domain name for Surefire Intelligence. • Surefire’s official phone number redirects to Wohl's mother’s voice-mail. • Surefire Intelligence’s “staff” headshots on their LinkedIn profiles are photos of celebrities, like Christoph Waltz, Israeli model Bar Rafaeli, and Sigourney Weaver’s husband, Jim Simpson, as well as a stock-photo model. • The profile picture of the managing partner “Matthew Cohen” seems to be a darkened picture of Wohl himself.
Mueller has officially called for an FBI investigation into the matter, so Wohl and Buckman might want to hire a real attorney for their fake news reports.
The Caravan of DOOM!
It's an invasion! The criminals and Middle Easterners (hey racist dog whistle!) are coming to kidnap your daughter and steal your jobs! It must be true - the president said it - right?
Well, not so much. Let's take some deep relaxing breaths and think about this. Caravans similar to the one currently making its way north have been making this trek for years now, and have largely gone unnoticed by the US, as the numbers dwindle significantly before they reach the US for asylum. Myth: asylum seekers have to stop at the first country that offers them refuge. False: There is no international law that states a person seeking asylum must stop at the first country they enter. According to the 1951 United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the 1967 protocol, and adopted into U.S. law, the U.S. must recognize refugees that fear persecution and are not able to get help from their home country. That won't stop these ladies - they won't stop believin', just like true 80s fans:
Born in the USA!
One of the crazier (and isn't that saying something?) statements to fly out of Trump's facehole was in regard to the 14th amendment, which states: "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States."
Obviously, the threat to revoke citizenship is not something that can be accomplished by executive order. But, boy, did his distraction start a backlash from the left. Beth and Kelly reviewed this tweet that spread like wildfire:
Well, that's not how this works at all. Barron’s father was a US citizen, remember? According to current U.S. Citizenship and Naturalization laws, a child born outside the U.S. “acquires citizenship at birth if at the time of birth one parent is a foreign national and the other parent is a U.S. citizen,” and “the U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States for at least 5 years, including at least 2 years after 14 years of age.”
Post-Election Racism, Day One
It didn't even take 24 hours for the wascally wabbits of the far-white to create a fake news meme - because who needs facts when you've got a scathing picture viewers will never fact check?
Well, Beth and Kelly checked it anyway, you know, just to be sure.
The meme features 4 Democrats: Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, Bob Menendez, Ilhan Omar and Keith Ellison. Only Ocasio-Cortez and Omar are newly elected as Menendez and Ellison have both held office previously. Beth found a great article on the intelligence of amphibians, but it's obvious that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is indeed much smarter than a salamander. Menendez, who is charged here with an old rumor perpetuated by his running opponent, has vehemently denied the charges, and the women who claimed to have been paid by Menendez have recanted and stated they were paid for their accusations.
The third photo features Ilahn Omar, who is one of two Muslims elected to the Senate in the November 6th election. Both her anti-semitism and her marriage to her brother are false, and it should be fair to say an America-hater wouldn't run for Congress. Keith Ellison, who was once associated with the Nation of Islam, has since broken ties with the group and denounced them in 2006. And, while we do not doubt victims of violence when they make claims, there is also no evidence that he physically attacked his ex-girlfriend.
